Christmas shopping at Floroma

Fete draws a crowd

It was Christmas shopping time at Floroma Old Age Home when they hosted a mini fete this past weekend (5 November).

Residents close to the Home as well as residents from other homes in Roodepoort came in their numbers to offer their support. There was a variety of stalls offering novelties, books and glassware, and a white elephant stall. Those who wanted to tingle their taste buds had options such as boerewors rolls, vetkoek and pancakes.

Joy Marsh, chief organiser of the fete has been involved with the home since 1986 when her mother-in-law used to live there.

“Back then we had a big fundraising committee but with people passing on it has become smaller. We used to do catering as well and working with the old ladies brought me immense pleasure.

Thanks to the fundraiser money, we managed to buy four beds and trolleys. There have been many highlights over the years, which have made this fete wonderful. I love what I do,” she said.
