Feeding the heart of Princess

Help this organisation

It has been almost a decade since the Inaganeleng Poverty Alleviation Programme was established in the heart of Princess Informal Settlement. The programme assists those families who do not have a cent to their name or food to eat. It was started by James and Masego Moabi after they saw the dire need in the community. That is when the idea of Inaganeleng, which is Setswana for ‘Think for yourself’, was formulated.

“I have been living here now for about 20 years and we had a community forum and my home was the meeting place.

We would assist as many as we could with what little we had. This is because we saw how many of our neighbours and friends did not have employment and couldn’t help themselves,” said James.

The duo approached many local businesses for assistance but none were forthcoming and the Moabi family was assisting people from their own pockets. However, a ray of hope began to shine when the Wilro Park NG Kerk offered to help the organisation. With the help of the church, they can now offer bread on Wednesday at 3pm and then at the same time on Thursday, they provide a home-cooked meal.

“Although we are grateful for the help, we are still asking for assistance to provide food for more people in the community. All we are asking for is help,” said James and Masego.
