Fourteen Americans robbed at gunpoint

Crime tarnishes SA's reputation as tourist destination.

Crime has once again tarnished South Africa’s reputation as a tourist destination after 14 American tourists were robbed at gunpoint on Goldman Street.

At about 8pm on Thursday 27 October, the Florida CPF Sector 2 team received a call-out to a hijacking. The team mobilised the neighbouring CPFs in the area, responded and found the victims who had been hijacked.

They were all American citizens visiting South Africa. They were on their way from the airport to their accommodation.

Trauma counselling was provided to all victims. One person was transported to hospital for a check-up.

Some victims lost medication and documents during the ordeal.

The team managed to get the American Embassy involved to assist in getting new documents for the victims.

The team also managed to find a pharmacy willing to assist after hours to get medication for the victims.

Florida CPF Sector 2, M&D, Apcan Security, Florida Blockwatch, Flomotion Victim Empowerment Team, ER24, and the Florida Police and their detectives all responded to the incident.
