Update: Doctors still to decide on scooter rider’s amputation

He's running a temperature of 39,3° which is believed to be the result of infection in his leg.

Anna-Marie van den Berg, the mother of the 20-year-old scooter rider, Hendrik van den Berg, who was hit by a truck on Tuesday, said this morning that he is “OK”.

Van den Berg is currently in the Intensive Care Unit of Milpark Hospital in an induced coma. He’s running a temperature of 39,3° which is believed to be the result of infection in his leg. His mother said the doctors will open up the leg today to see if the muscles and nerves are repairing. A decision will then be made as to whether his leg will have to be amputated or not.

Van den Berg was riding his scooter when a truck collided with him at the intersection of Generaal Pienaar Avenue and Albertina Sisulu Road. The driver of the truck had been charged with reckless and negligent driving and will appear in court soon.
