Relationship cohesion could save your business

RUIMSIG – Motivational and performance coach explains how relationships can negatively impact your business and life.

What if you could unlock the secrets behind why you do what you do and, therefore, have better relationships with others?

Motivational and performance coach, Allan Harvey, gave the answers to this question and more at the Roodepoort Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Rocci) workshop at the Ruimsig Country Club on 18 October.

Harvey explained at the Relationship Cohesion Workshop that every person is driven by a force that underpins their personality, which you are born with, but which is something that is developed and influenced over time, what Harvey calls learned behavior. A person’s driving force is what determines their strengths, weaknesses, personality under stress and what ‘do or don’t buttons’ they possess.

Besides being able to answer the question, ‘Why do I do what I do’, the workshop helped attendees become aware of other people’s driving force, which benefits personal, as well as work relationships.

Personalities can influence the work environment greatly, as Harvey shared international statistics from last year that showed 85 per cent of individuals that were fired last year were fired because of relationship problems. Another statistic showed 60 per cent of individuals who leave their jobs do so because of their boss and not because of the job. These statistics also showed that 19 to 29 per cent of a manager’s time is taken up trying to solve personality conflict issues. “Equate that in rand value to quantify the impact that has on bottom-line,” Harvey added.

He encouraged business owners who attended to do their own research in their office space to determine where personality issues are an obstacle.

“Life is all about relationships and I want to give people the tools to build their relationships and personal development,” said Harvey.

Harvey offers individual as well as team cohesion assessments for a fee.
