Damage will be repaired soon

This is what happened

After some investigating and asking around, the Record has learned the cause of the damage to the stormwater pipe on the corner of Nywerheid and Einde Streets.

Gert Niemand, the councillor for Ward 84, said there was a burst water pipe that was repaired by Johannesburg Water (JW) during August this year. According to him, during these repairs, the stormwater pipe was damaged by JW’s equipment. “This is an interdepartmental issue. JW was supposed to send a report to Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) to inform them of the damge. JRA would then send a quotation to JW with the cost of the repairs, which they need to pay. As soon as JW accepts the quotation, JRA would then proceed with repairs,” Niemand said.

He wanted to assure residents that this matter has been escalated to JRA to be handled as a matter of urgency.
