The Novices from KJK Katja’s Judo Club made their province and club proud as they excelled at a recent competition. The judoka represented the Johannesburg District and their schools at the South African Schools Judo Championships. The event took place at the Portuguese Hall in Turffontein earlier this month.
Dylan de Lange, Jared Cronje and Ruan Landsberg put in impressive performances with the help of their coach, Sensei Katja Bruwer, who has been helping them prepare throughout the year. Grabbing a gold medal first was 10-year-old Laerskool Florida pupil Dylan in the 27kg category. He was followed by Ridgevale Primary School’s Jared who won his gold medal in the 42kg category. Ruan from Laerskool Florida won a silver medal in the 30kg category. Laerskool Roodekrans pupil Dewald Schultz had to settle for being a referee at the competition as he had to withdraw after developing Bell’s Palsy.
