Know your water-meter readers

Gone are the days of not knowing whether your water meter reader is the real thing

The days of not knowing whether your water-meter reader is a criminal or a real employee from Johannesburg Water (JW) are something of the past.

Water-meter readers travel to different residential and commercial locations on assigned routes to gather accurate data regarding the amount of utilities used by residents within the City of Johannesburg. JW is no longer making use of contractors to fulfill this task. All meter readers are now internal employees of JW and have been trained to be able to do this task with confidence.

From Monday, 17 October, residents will know exactly who their meter readers are, as JW has compiled a list of all the names of its internal meter readers, and have made it available on their website. They have also included a photograph of the employee as well as an employee number to make it easier for residents to verify their identity.

Residents are urged to go to www.johannesburgwater.co.za/services/meter-readers to verify an employee’s details. According to JW, if the water-meter reader’s name does not appear on the website, the individual is not an employee and should not be granted access to your property.

If residents are unable to access the website, they can call JW on 011 688 1400, send a Facebook message or a tweet (@JHBWater). This way JW will be able to confirm whether the person on your property is an employee or not.

This is an effort by JW to keep the city’s residents safe and ensure good service delivery.
