Nic Diedrichs upgrade near completion

WILGEHEUWEL – Upgrades are almost complete for the Nic Diedrichs Boulevard and Vintage road intersection.

Since October 2015 residents have been affected by the upgrades that have been happening to Nic Diedrichs Boulevard and Vintage Road in Wilgeheuwel.

The construction of a complex, Park Royal, and a new school, Curro Academy Wilgeheuwel, were the reasons for the infrastructure upgrade.

Since then, the Park Royal complex has been completed and was opened after Renico Construction signed it off. Their construction went as far as the large traffic circle on Vintage Road connecting to Sjampanje Road. Renico planning manager, Anscha Kley, stated in a previous story that the large traffic circle will help alleviate the current heavy traffic and the influx of traffic when the project is complete. The traffic circle will allow traffic to flow from both the complex, school, Vintage and Sjampanje streets.

Curro Holdings is responsible for the upgrades from the traffic circle upwards onto Nic Diedrichs Boulevard.

UPDATE: Nic Diedericks and Vintage upgrade

Joy Smith from Curro Holdings said, “Phase one, consisting of the pre- and primary schools and sporting facilities, will be completed in December 2016, to be ready for January 2017 occupation by pupils. Further development of the site will be advised as and when it becomes necessary and planned accordingly.”

Residents and motorists that frequent the area may be concerned about added congestion to traffic. Smith added, “Curro has had a thorough traffic impact assessment done. The upgrades to the road system, including the two entrances to the school, have been deemed sufficient to support the vehicular circulation and traffic flow on campus and in the area surrounding the school.”
