Siyazifukula on Transport Month

Association takes Transport Month seriously

October is National Transport Month, and the Siyazifukula Learner Transport Association is showing its dedication to safer roads. The association’s chairperson, Bheki Ziqubu, said they are celebrating by proudly showing off how they keep their school children passengers safe.

“Our drivers have legal permits to transport school children, drivers’ licences and Public Driving Permits (PDP).

The Minister of Transport, Dipuo Peters, said we must help keep the roads safe for 365 days and no lives should be lost. We can’t be spectators in the transport industry while others are not doing their best to drive safely with school children. Our vision is to see every school transporter operating according to the law,” he said. The association’s members also showed off their Basic Fire-fighting and Basic First Aid certificates.

Members of the association are working hard to show the community that they care. They are implementing road safety regulations, and adhering to government policy, which states that taxis across the country must be equipped with fire extinguishers.

The association’s members are proud to have permits to ferry children and transport those who will be travelling to different provinces during the December period. All their transportation vehicles have first aid kits and fire extinguishers.

“Sometimes when we ferry children, their parents don’t tell us that their children are sick. If the child collapses, what should we do? That’s why the driver must be able to do basic first aid and be able to assist if possible,” said Bheki.

The offices of the association are located at Sunshine Plaza in the Roodepoort CBD. For more information, contact Bheki on 072 1250 456, or Khumo Dibakwane on 084 8662 621.
