Saps National Awards

MIDRAND – Tracker held the South African Police Service National Awards ceremony in Accolades, Midrand.

 

Tracker recently hosted the South African Police Service (Saps) National Awards ceremony at Accolades in Midrand.

Various units and individuals from different provinces were awarded for their good work, but the biggest win and honour went to Constable Severiano Blundin who received the award for the national individual winner.

Blundin is part of the Tracker recovery team in the Eastern Cape and has recovered 80 vehicles, conducted 108 arrests and has seized multiple narcotics and unlicensed firearms.

The national unit winner award went to the White River Flying Squad for their work during the 2015/2016 year and for recovering more than 150 stolen vehicles.

The guests of the ceremony were entertained by a Latin American dance show and some gumboot dancers.

The executive for operational services at Tracker, Ron Knott-Craig, spoke about the Saps/Tracker bursary scheme which grants merit bursaries to children of police officers.

Gauteng MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane delivered the keynote address about the relationship between Tracker and the South African Police Service. She said the Tracker and Saps partnership, which started in 1996, has resulted in 75 000 vehicles being recovered with about 5 000 recovering a month, and 15 000 criminals being arrested to date.

In conclusion, Malobane said the awards are evidence that good work doesn’t go unnoticed and is awarded and has encouraged the police to continue protecting their communities.
