Police Video Update: Police to take action against abusive officer

Occasional cluster spokesperson, Captain Balan Muthan, described the incident as "unacceptable".

Roodepoort Police Station is going to take action against the officer who was filmed swearing at a woman trying to lay a charge.

Occasional cluster spokesperson, Captain Balan Muthan, described the incident as “unacceptable” and late yesterday, Colonel Gerrie van Rooyen informed the Record that he had been instructed by the Police’s Provincial structure to investigate the incident. But he needed the complainant’s contact information in order to request a formal complaint from her before he could start his investigation. He was also give a tight deadline to get the investigation going.

The incident took place on 20 June and in the video the policeman calls the complainant’s mother “useless” and then goes on to say to her “you’re f***ing useless”.

Muthan said there will be a departmental investigation and should he be found guilty, departmental disciplinary action – which does not exclude discharge – will be taken.
