National No Bra Day

Leave your lingerie at home on #NationalNoBraDay

13 October is the day to leave your bra at home and embrace the celebration of National No Bra Day.

For many, this day is a very controversial event. National No Bra Day encourages woman to go bra-less for a 24-hour period on 13 October as the whole month is dedicated to Breast Cancer Awareness. Although the origins of National No Bra Day are unclear, this event has been running since at least 2011 – promoting breast cancer awareness to help raise money for research. It also reminds women – and men – of the importance of joining the fight against breast cancer by being screened regularly for breast cancer, recognising the symptoms of breast cancer and doing regular self-examinations. Many survivors of breast cancer are unable to go without a bra as they need it to hold their prosthesis after surgery.

To observe the day, schedule an appointment for a mammogram or go for a breast cancer screen. Familiarise yourself with the symptoms of breast cancer to enable you to recognise it immediately. You can also do a self-examination to make sure you do not have any lumps that may be cancerous.

Take part in raising awareness for breast cancer research by using #NoBraDay or #NationalNoBraDay on social media.
