Adies’ new leaders

New executive council elected

The pageantry and drama at Hoërskool Die Adelaar had organiser Marc January’s name written all over it. The school was gearing up to announce its new Representative Council of Learners (RCL) for 2017. This year’s RCL members had their last chance in the spotlight, bidding farewell to the pupils they have served for four terms at an assembly on the morning of Monday,10 October.

Candidates for the new RCL were carefully chosen and pupils had to cast their votes for who they wanted to represent them. Earlier this month, the candidates were put through their paces at a camp in Venterskroon in the North West Province. The camp’s theme was unity, and January ensured that pupils did activities that would create stronger bonds.

“The pupils also participated in various activities at the camp, such as team-building exercises, river-rafting, hiking trails, swimming and abseiling. Our purpose was to unite the group of candidates as one so they will be united and ready to take over from their predecessors. The outgoing RCL has done an amazing job so the new guys have big shoes to fill, but I am confident the newly elected council will do a great job.

They all have strong personalities and bonds, and are united which will help them succeed,” he said.

Omphemetse Mohale was selected as the new president of the RCL, taking over from Wandile Tshabalala. Just like his predecessor, Omphemetse received the tragic news of his grandmother’s passing during the election proceedings. Last year, Wandile’s grandfather passed away, just before Wandile was announced as president of the RCL.

Omphemetse was a popular choice as cheers rang out even before his name was announced. He will be assisted by Tinyiko Masinge as the first vice-president while the second vice-president is Kamvalethu Sikiti. Kgope Mannya will be the new PRO, the secretary will be Sesi Nthelebofu and Landeka Ntshingila is the treasurer. Kgomotso Morake will be the head of Culture and Academics and Zanele Tshabalala will be the head of Sport. Kamvalethu Sikiti, along with Tamlyn Swartz and Kirstie Pretorius were selected to be Student Governing Body (SGB) representatives.
