Paws R Us SA unleashes Secret Life of Pets

STRUBENS VALLEY – Animal rescue, Paws R Us raises funds through the release of a much-anticipated animated pets movie.

Paws R Us SA was the talk of Clearwater Mall’s cinema when it held its pets fundraiser.

The animal shelter organised a private viewing of the movie, Secret Life of Pets at its opening weekend for the community and its supporters. Moviegoers paid R130, which included the 2D movie, a box of popcorn, a soft drink, a professional photograph of the moviegoers with the movie branding and a doggie-bag of sweets for the children.

“The response was amazing. The 108-seat cinema we were allowed to use was sold out within two weeks. We did not expect this response, and we even had a waiting list and people who asked for us to schedule another event,” said co-director of Paws R Us SA, Chantelle Murray.

Paws R Us SA also used this opportunity to display its merchandise, which was well supported and individuals even contributed dog food and other items on the rescuer’s wish list.

Murray explained that animal welfare can become lost among all the other causes in South Africa, and since it doesn’t receive government funding, fundraising is very important to keep the rescuers’ doors open. This is why the support from locals, and from individuals as far as Pretoria who came down to support the event, is crucial to the welfare of the 140 dogs in the organisation’s care.

The money raised will go towards kennel bills among other operating costs.

“When we heard about the movie, we decided it was so appropriate for us to use it to raise funds for the rescue. The idea for the movie is just so awesome. I would definitely do another movie fundraising event,” Murray added.
