Patrollers honoured

Princess Primary's scholar patrollers receive certificates and medals

There was a lot of excitement and expectation among the Princess Primary scholar patrollers on the morning of 28 September.

They were part of an event organised by JMPD earlier this month where their hard work and dedication were recognised by awarding them medals and certificates.

The councillor for Ward 71, René Benjamin visited the school to hand over these certificates and medals to the pupils. “The scholar patrol consists of 20 pupils from Grade 6, but there are two exceptions. One pupil is an 11-year-old and Nandi is from the special needs class. Nandi wanted to be a part of the scholar patrol very badly and the school gave permission. She is actually doing very well,” said René.

According to René the pupils from Princess Primary’s scholar patrol face quite a few dangers when on patrol duty. “That is why we changed the pedestrian crossing to a raised one recently. We are in the process of arranging new scholar patrol equipment for them.

The JMPD promised they would arrange proper training for these patrollers as well as uniforms,” she said.

“We will do everything in our power to assure the safety of our children,” René concluded.
