Law firm overrun by furry friends

Local law firm brings pets to work for a good cause

If you visit the offices of Dykes van Heerden (DvH) Incorporated in Roodepoort during the month of October, you will be greeted by sights and sounds not usually heard there.

There might be a lot of barking, meowing, maybe some growling and definitely a lot of running around.

This is because of the unique fundraising initiative started by Nadia Dykes and some of the other attorneys in the office in a bid to raise awareness and support for the Cause for Paws campaign run by Chas Everitt Property Group.

For DvH this is an important initiative that is very close to their hearts as most of the staff love animals and are passionate about supporting non-profit organisations involved in rescuing animals.

Some of the animals already rescued by staff include rabbits, chinchillas, dogs, cats, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, parrots and many more.

A brainstorming session between the attorneys was held to try to come up with a fun, unique, but also practical solution. The result is the Furry Champion campaign. All DvH’s staff are invited to book a day to get the opportunity to show off their beloved pet(s) which will be the Furry Champion(s) for the day. The only requirement for them is to make a donation to Cause for Paws.

A collection bin will be set up in the offices of DvH where all donations of food, blankets and toys can be placed during the whole month of October.

The initiative will continue for as long as donations are received. The proceeds will be distributed to local charities.

What can you do to help?

Members of the public are invited to make monetary donations or drop off blankets, treats, food and toys for the pets at the offices of DvH in Roodepoort. These gifts will then be distributed.

The Furry Champion campaign is set to start in October, so when you make an appointment during this month, ask if a furry champion will be available to meet and greet you.

You can also contact DvH to enquire about co-sponsoring a furry champion or making a donation.
