Update: Murder-accused son released on bail

According to source, normal bail conditions apply.

The young man believed to be in his 20s, who is facing a murder charge for gunning down his father, has been released on bail.

He appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on 19 September. A source claims he was released on bail of R2 000, which apparently left some of the extended family unhappy. According to the source he was released on the grounds that he has no history of violence, no previous convictions, has a fixed address and is not a flight risk. He would also have had to hand in his passport.

It is alleged that he fired 14 shots during the afternoon of Saturday 17 September. Four shots allegedly hit his father, who succumbed to his wounds. The Honeydew Police were only willing to confirm the incident, and would not provide details. It is unclear what led to the shooting.

The case has been postponed to 24 October.
