Win with Food Lovers Market Westgate

Another chance to win with Food Lovers Market's Tip of the Week

Apples are one of the most common fruits, packed with various health benefits which assist in preventing gallstones, detoxifying the liver, boosting the immune system and neutralising irritable bowel syndrome. With all of these benefits, the phrase ‘An apple a day keeps the doctor away’ certainly holds a lot of truth.

Charles Finlay, store manager at Food Lovers Market Westgate, has given us tips on the best ways to store apples to prevent them from ripening too soon.

· Always handle apples carefully as they bruise easily.

· It is ideal to store apples in a refrigerator as they will stay fresher for longer.

· It is best to store apples in a sealed plastic bag in the refrigerator as they give off ethylene. While not harmful, the natural gas does make other fresh produce, particularly lettuce, turn brown sooner.
