Wrestling for God

Church hosts fun day open to the West Rand

Churches across the West Rand are partnering up with the Honour Wrestling Association (HWA) for National Braai Day. They are getting together with a mission – to bring children back to church. The religious organisations are targeting children in the community who struggle with various issues and need to speak to an adult.

“There are children in the community who struggle with a lot of issues, whether it be their parents having drug problems, or the fact that they can’t speak to their parents about issues such as school bullying.

The churches want to give the children a safe alternative,” said HWA’s Steve Eden.

Not only children are invited to attend the talks given by the guest speaker, their parents are also welcome and will have a separate session where another guest speaker will address them.

“Children are important to us at HWA, and we want to be positive role models for them,” continued Steve.

The exciting day will kick off with a motivational session for both children and parents. Then the wrestlers of HWA will take to the ring, while musician Jay Austin will serenade the senior citizens who will be invited from local old age homes. The Fire Department will have an exhibition to show the different components of a fire truck and what it takes to put out a fire. As the day is primarily focused on children, there will be 12 different slides and jumping castles, Kallie the Clown will make an appearance, there will be various food stalls at low prices and no entry fees will be charged.

“This is not an event to make money but to bring children back to the church where they can be safe. The whole West Rand community is invited to the Braai Day event,” said Steve.

The event is on 24 September at Laerskool Ebenhaeser from 8am. For more information, contact Steve on 074 932 7520 or Marius Keyter on 082 336 2552.
