Welcome to Adies Restaurant

Pupils serve their guests well at Adies Restaurant

The Adies Restaurant was open for business at Hoërskool Die Adelaar on the evening of 14 September.

Grade 10 pupils with the help of teachers Mark January and Truisa Viviers made the night a success. Truisa, who started the restaurant initiative more than 10 years ago, came out of retirement especially for this occasion. Pupils taking Hospitality Studies prepared a three-course meal, which included bobotie, yellow rice and chicken pepperoncini, as part of their examination. They had to serve 45 guests which included their teachers, parents and the school’s sponsors. Special guests Gerty and Corrie Croucamp from Culembeeck Church, who supply bread for the children at the school were also invited.

Mark was confident his pupils learned a fair amount from the experience and will improve more in their studies.

“All they did today – the dishes, the tables, welcoming the guests and serving them – is theory we have learnt in class. We also have practicals twice a week so the pupils are well prepared,” he said.

Die Adelaar is one of three schools in the area offering Hospitality Studies as a subject. The others are Hoërskool Florida and Hoërskool Bastion.
