Syndicate update: Wheels of justice apparently come to standstill on a weekend

Victim once again does his own detective work.

Pieter Fourie’s quest for justice, after three of his motorcycles had been stolen by an alleged syndicate, seems to remain a solitary one.

On Saturday a contact of Fourie alerted him to an article in the Middelburg Observer about two Mozambican nationals who, on Friday 9 September, allegedly poisoned four dogs and then stole two motorcycles. One suspect was caught when he was trying to hide in a pond but the other one managed to escape. According to the editor of the Middelburg Observer, Tobie van den Bergh, motorcycle theft is just as rife in Middelburg.

On the same day (10 September) Fourie passed on the information to the captain (name known to the Record) who is investigating his case, but was told it was his “weekend off” and that he would attend to it on Monday. Fourie managed to get the contact details of the Middelburg investigation officer, which he WhatsApped to the captain, but the latter only read the message at about 11.45am today (13 September). He told Fourie he would discuss it with his superiors tomorrow (14 September).

An undercover Mozambican police officer had told Fourie that on Saturday and Sunday a huge motorcycle get-together was held in Matola, Mozambique, and that about 80 per cent of the motorcycles at the event was stolen property. Fourie also passed this information on to the officer investigating his case, but it is uncertain how the police responded, if at all.
