Political party representatives granted permission to remove posters personally
Although most of the campaign posters in the Roodepoort area have been removed, there are a few remaining ones.
On 1 September representatives of all political parties attended a meeting during which a request was put forward that the date by which all election posters should be removed, be extended.
This request was granted and it was agreed that parties will be allowed to remove their remaining posters until 23 September.
Virgil James, City of Johannesburg spokesperson told the party representatives that after this date the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) will remove posters at a fine of R200 per poster.
“All political parties get a grace period to remove posters. The JMPD will act only after the City has instructed us to do so,” said JMPD Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.
