National Read a Book Day

Spend the day with your favourite story on #NationalReadABookDay

What is better than relaxing in a comfortable spot reading your favourite book?

If this is something you enjoy doing but always feel guilty about, don’t despair, because today, 6 September, is National Read A Book Day and you are encouraged to grab a book and spend the day reading.

National Read A Book Day should not be confused with National Booklovers Day which was celebrated on 9 August, although these bookish days may seem similar.

Books provide entertainment and education, and act as time machines too. They also encourage readers to use their imagination to picture the characters while reading.

Reading has many benefits, including improving memory and concentration. It also assists in reducing stress levels.

A slower cognitive decline has been identified in older adults who spend time reading and they also tend to participate in more mentally stimulating activities during their lives.

Sit back, relax and read your favourite book, but don’t keep it to yourself.

Share the joyful experience! Read aloud to your children, grandparents or even your pets, stuffed animals and plants.

Post on social media using #NationalReadABookDay.
