Join Lil Choices on Braai Day

Organisation to host braai day

The non-political, non-racial and non-religious registered organisation, Lil Choices, will be hosting a fundraising braai in conjunction with Arthur Matthews Primary School, on National Braai Day. The money will go towards the work of the organisation, which was created to protect the unborn children of pre-teen, teenage and adult mothers.

Founder and director of the organisation, Rae Bagus, said her organisation’s goal is to eradicate abortion and the abandonment of infants. “We find ourselves in a society where more and more children are being abandoned and aborted for many reasons, one being that it’s young girls who fall pregnant. In some families, the pregnant girls are banished because pregnancy out of wedlock is regarded as shameful.

Many young girls who fall pregnant have to abandon their children or suffer the humiliation of a back street abortion, which costs some of them their lives. This is because they are left with no choice,” said Rae.

Lil Choices gives young girls who fall pregnant the opportunity to have their babies and decide on the future of the child, whether it be keeping the baby or putting it up for adoption. Should the young girls choose adoption, the organisation works with adoption agencies to find suitable homes for the babies at birth. Keeping the baby is far more challenging but the young mothers will be assisted to develop a skill that will help them to find employment and support their babies.

“Please help us by supporting this fundraiser. I realise that many in the community may not be able to attend, but Lil Choices would love to invite 200 senior citizens and underprivileged children to spend the day with us.You can help by purchasing one or more braai packs, allowing them to enjoy the day too,” said Rae.

The event will be hosted at Arthur Matthews Primary School on 24 September. Anyone interested in putting up a stall, or wanting more information, is invited to call Rae on 082 782 6018. The braai day will include fun games for children, and braai packs and other refreshments will be on sale.
