Little Eagles give back to the community

WELTEVREDEN PARK - The Little Eagle Nursery School teaches the lesson of charity.

Little Eagles Nursery School in Weltevreden Park is doing their bit to give back to the community and teach their children about acts of kindness.

For the first time this year, the school joined hands with Randburg SPCA, Friends of Rescued Animals (Fora) and Community Led Animal Welfare (Claw) and had the parents of each child donate food or blankets for the animals in the different organisations’ care. For each item donated, the child would receive a picture to colour in. Each picture entered the child into a lucky draw to win a hamper of toys and sweets.

“We are passionate about giving back the community and getting the children involved while showing there is still good in the community,” said Laetita Biwker of Little Eagles Nursery School.

The school’s next charity project will be to collect second-hand clothes and canned food for a charity that is yet to be decided.

However, the Little Eagles continue to collect plastic bottle tops to exchange for wheelchairs for people in need. This project could not have come sooner for the school’s domestic worker, Olga Ratshimphi, whose boyfriend, Johannes Monama was at the wrong place at the wrong time in a shooting in Honeydew. Monama, was shot and a bullet near his spine has left Monama temporarily paralysed.

The school was happy to help and donated the first wheelchair they were able to attain to Monama. The wheelchair has helped him through his physiotherapy sessions.

“I am proud and happy with the parents who have contributed and been on board with our projects this year,” added principal, Estelanie van Wyk.
