National Dog Day

Give some love to you furry best friend on #NationalDogDay

“A dog is a man’s best friend.”

26 August is National Dog Day and this day encourages dog ownership of all breeds, be it mixed or pure.

The opportunity for all dogs to live a happy, safe and abuse-free life is also being embraced on this day.

National Dog Day was founded in 2004 by pet-lifestyle expert and author, Colleen Paige.

Dogs do not only offer us companionship but they also keep us safe and proved aid for those in need.

Many people use this day to try and find homes for all dogs in need of a forever home and loving family, and the National Dog Day Fund aims to rescue 10 000 dogs each year.

To celebrate National Dog dog can be as easy a giving your furry four-legged friend a hug and kiss (If they are that way inclined!).

But for those who want to take their love and appreciation to another level, here are some other ways for you to celebrate:

– Adopt a dog from your local shelter

– Do a safety check of your home to ensure it is safe for your dog and others.

– Donate blankets, food and toys to animal welfare shelters.

– Have a Dog Day party and invite all your friends and their dogs.

– Buy your dog a new toy (or two or five!)

– Take your dog for a walk to the park, brush his coat or give him a massage.

– Teach your dog a new trick or two.

– Buy a new fashionable collar and leash.

– Every time someone says hello, say “Because Dogs.”

– If you do not have a dog ask your neighbour if you could take his for a walk.

Use #NationalDogDay and post photos of you and your dog(s) on social media.
