Man arrested for illegal firearm and ammunition

Suspect tried to flee.

This past Monday (21 August) a man was arrested for possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

Members of Roodepoort Police were on a routine patrol at about 2.30pm when they received a tip-off about a suspect who was in possession of an illegal firearm. They started a search and found a suspect in Lategan Street who fitted the description of the person they were looking for. When the suspect saw the police he tried to flee on foot. While running he threw the firearm to the ground, but the police managed to apprehend him.

The police found a Vektor pistol and 11 rounds of ammunition in the suspect’s possession.

The 24-year-old suspect will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court soon.
