Safe and sound at Featherbrooke

FEATHERBROOKE - Netcare 911 and Fidelity Security team up to showcase safety procedures to the community of Featherbrooke Estate.

Netcare 911 and Fidelity Security teamed up for a Safety Day, where families of Featherbrooke Estate learnt about different safety procedures.

Among the demonstrations on 20 August, Netcare played out a scenario where a car had rolled off the road into a ravine. Two passengers needed to be extracted from the vehicle using the Jaws of Life. An additional person had been flung out of the car in the scenario and a search and rescue dog was brought in to track down the ‘missing’ person. Mountain Rescue heaved the third person out of the ‘ravine’ after they were found.

Other activities on the day included free CPR training, a police dog demo and lots of entertainment for children, such as abseiling, face-painting and sand art. Children were also allowed a ride on the two fire trucks that were there.

Netcare and Fidelity had also been active in Featherbrooke on 19 August, where domestic staff of the estate were given free safety training.

Many individuals present found the Jaws of Life extraction one of the more interesting demonstrations, to which spectator, Riana Griessel, added, “It was interesting to see the paramedics in action as we normally just pass them on the road and don’t know what’s going on. I’ve been in a car accident where they had to cut me out using the Jaws of Life, which I don’t remember, so it was great to actually see what they did,” said Griessel.
