UPDATE: Two pupils expelled for stabbing

ALLEN'S NEK – Case of stabbing at Allen Glen High School comes to an end after a week.

The ordeal a for a mother and son has finally come to an end, a week after the incident.

A disciplinary hearing was held on 17 August at Allen Glen High School after a Grade 9 pupil of the school was stabbed by a fellow pupil on 10 August in the school’s bathroom. According to acting spokesperson of the Gauteng Department of Education, Oupa Bodibe, a fight broke out over a cigarette, between three boys.

The school’s governing body chairperson, Warren MacKrill, confirmed that the victim – as well as the two attackers – went through a disciplinary hearing yesterday at the school. The victim was cleared of all charges.

Bodibe said that the school’s recommendation is that the pupils must be expelled from the school. “The report with those recommendations was forwarded to the head of department for his consideration on the matter. Once the head of department approved these pupil’s expulsion the district will arrange for them to be placed in other schools,” said Bodibe.

The pupils are currently at home and arrangements have been made for them to receive their school work so as not to fall behind. Bodibe said that once they are placed in new schools, they will attend a diversion programme on behavioural change through an institution recommended and monitored by the district.

The victim’s mother said she feels relieved at the outcome. “The school did its best.” She thanked the Roodepoort Northsider for the support.
