National Soft Ice Cream Day

Enjoy a soft serve ice cream on #NationalSoftIceCreamDay

National Soft Ice Cream Day is observed on 19 August every year.

Soft ice cream was discovered after air was introduced during freezing.

Soft serve ice cream has been around since the 1930’s and was discovered by Tom Carvel when his ice cream truck had a flat tyre on Memorial Day in 1934.

This happened while he was in New York. He pulled his truck into a parking lot and started selling the softened ice cream to passing vacationers.

After seeing the love people had for soft ice cream he decided to open a business selling this new found dessert from a fixed location.

In 1936 he opened his first store on the site where his truck originally broke down. He sold his secret formula soft serve ice cream, dispensed from his patented super low-temperature ice cream machines, from this store.

To celebrate go out for some soft serve ice cream with friends or family. Be adventurous and try some different flavours or add a flake to your vanilla ice cream.
