Update: 68-year-old alleged ‘sword murderer’ in court again

Her legal counsel told her 'not to get her hopes up'

The case of the 68-year-old who allegedly killed 43-year-old Mark Orton with a sword-like knife last year has been postponed until 30 November.

This comes after the court and the state yesterday (17 August) had trouble setting a date for trial.

Orton’s supporters, which included his mother Tina Orton, once again wore their T-shirts bearing the words ‘Justice for Mark’.

Tina Orton told the Record afterwards that her legal counsel told her ‘not to get her hopes up’ as far as the length of the sentence is concerned, due to the accused’s age. “That did not matter on the day of Mark’s death,” said the visibly emotional and angry mother.
