Saps out in full force for Operation Basadi

STRUBENS VALLEY - Road blocks and infiltrating crime hotspots was the Saps' mission as part of a Women's Month operation.

The Gauteng Saps Women’s Network-led Operation Basadi in Strubens Valley will be in operation for Women’s Month.

Part of Operation Basadi, which will run for the entire month of August, was carried out by the Saps, JMPD  and Gautrans on 12 August. Over 70 officers gathered at Clearwater Mall, where they prayed for a decrease in crime and the safety of women, before they dispersed to man two roadblocks on Hendrik Potgieter Road.

Lieutenant Colonel Irene Sekwakwa of Honeydew Saps  said, “The roadblocks will last for two hours and then officers will move into problematic hotspots in the area,” said Sekwakwa.

Honeydew was targeted as the chosen area of the operation because of its high crime rate. The officers were cracking down on motor vehicle theft, house burglary and testing for stolen cars.

Security manager of Clearwater Mall, Quentin Janse van Rensburg, thanked the present officers for their hard work and each officer received a lunch box.
