According to the Outdoor Advertising Bylaws, Section 28 (1) e) election posters “must be removed by the person displaying it within five days after conclusion of the election or voter registration, failing which, the Council shall within 10 days after the conclusion of the election or voter registration notify the relevant party to remove the posters within a time period specified … “. Spokesperson of City of Joburg, Virgil James said,

“The parties have been granted an extra seven days to achieve this”.

This means the political parties have a total of 21 days after the election to remove all their campaign material.

If the parties fail to remove the material within this set time-frame, the Council may remove the posters and charge the relevant parties a prescribed fee per poster removed in this manner.
