National Creamsicle Day

Ice cream and fruit juice in one on #NationalCreamsicleDay

14 August is the annual celebration of National Creamsicle Day.

This frozen delight is ice cream and fruit juice all in one! It is vanilla ice cream on a popsicle stick usually coated with an exterior of flavoured orange ice. This frozen dessert has been around for many years and is not only enjoyed in the summer but all year round.

11 year old Frank Epperson experimented with putting fruit juice around Vanilla ice-cream in 1905 and created the “Epsicle”. The original Epsicle became known as a popsicle, creamsicle and even dreamsicle and was done with just orange juice outside.

Today you can found them in a lot of different flavours from orange to blue raspberry, lime, grape, cherry and even blueberry!

This cold delight has been a staple of the summertime ice cream truck since they started moving around and serving at warm locations.

To celebrate do not only go out and get a creamsicle. Share one with someone who never had the experience of tasting a creamsicle. Or make them at home by mixing together fruit juice, vanilla ice cream and milk in a large bowl . Pour the mixture in into small paper cups and freeze them. Push popsicle sticks into them once they are partially frozen and return to the freezer. Once they are frozen solid peel off the paper cups and enjoy your homemade creamsicles!
