One of the two dangerous prisoners who escaped en route to their first court appearance in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court has been rearrested.
It is still unclear where and under what circumstances he was rearrested. The prisoner will now appear in court on 25 August to face multiple charges.
The two prisoners escaped on 4 August when they pried open the bars in front of the windows of the police truck in which they were being transported to court. It is believed they smuggled a piece of iron out of the prison which they then used to commit the act. The truck was less than a kilometre away from court on Albertina Sisulu Road when the incident took place.
