Update: Escaped prisoners not from Krugersdorp Correctional Facility

Two prisoners were to appear in court.

The two prisoners, deemed dangerous, who escaped en route to the Roodepoort Magistrates Court, were not being transported from Krugersdorp Correctional Facility, as was initially reported.

This has been confirmed by the facility’s spokesperson, Linda de Klerk. According to a high-ranking official stationed at Roodepoort Police Station, the prisoners were being transported from the Roodepoort Police Station’s holding cells after recently being arrested.

The two prisoner escaped by using an unidentified metal object to pry open the bars in front of the windows of the police truck. They escaped yesterday morning, about 1km from the court.

At the time of publication, the Honeydew Cluster spokesperson, Karen Jacobs, said she was still gathering information concerning the incident.
