One critical after Little Falls accident

LITTLE FALLS – Morning accident between bakkie and light motor vehicle being investigated.

One person is critically injured after a bakkie and a light motor vehicle collided this morning (1 August).

The accident happened at the Hendrik Potgieter and Fred and Harry Road intersection in Little Falls. According to ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring, ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at 8.23am and found both vehicles in the middle of the intersection.

“It is believed that the light motor vehicle initially lay on its side, but was pushed upright by members of the public,” said Meiring. On assessment, paramedics found a man in his 30s trapped inside his light motor vehicle in a critical condition. “ER24 rescue paramedics had to use specialised rescue tools to free the man from the vehicle. Once extricated, paramedics treated the man and provided him with numerous advanced life support interventions,” said Meiring.

A second man, also in his 30s, was found seated inside his bakkie. The patient was assessed and found to have sustained only minor injuries. Both patients were transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment. “The exact cause of the collision is not yet known, but local authorities were on scene for further investigations,” concluded Meiring.
