Win with Food Lovers Market Tip of the Week

Another chance to win with Food Lovers Market

Did you know mushrooms have been used for centuries for their powerful healing benefits? It has also been identified as a nutrient-rich superfood containing no fat, sugar or salt.

The fact that it is low in kilojoules makes it an ideal ingredient to include in meals if you’re conscious about kilojoule intake.

Charles Finlay, the store manager of Food Lover’s Market Westgate, shares some tips on how to store and wash your mushrooms:

If you’ve purchased pre-packed mushrooms, it’s best to store the mushrooms in the store-bought packaging in your refrigerator. If you’ve planted and harvested your own mushrooms, store them in a paper bag or in a damp cloth bag in the refrigerator, allowing it to breathe so it stays firm longer. To clean your mushrooms, gently remove any excess dirt with a damp paper towel or a soft mushroom brush. Rinse the mushrooms lightly and do not soak the mushrooms. Pat dry with a paper towel.
