Photos: Chop shop raided after patient investigation

Premises were monitored for months.

Florida Police, the Metro Police, the Florida CPF Sector Two and Apcan Security struck a major blow to vehicle and gate-motor thieves when they pounced on a chop shop (a place where stolen vehicles are stripped for their parts) in Claremont yesterday.

This comes after months of investigation and monitoring the premises. The chop shop was raided after signals from a vehicle stolen in Florida on Monday were received by Rentrak (a vehicle tracking company). Upon raiding the house, the teams discovered a large number of gate motors believed to have been stolen in the West Rand area, particularly Florida. Various stolen motor spares and motor body parts were recovered. A large vehicle trailer stolen in Soweto was also recovered.

One suspect was apprehended on the scene, but the second, who fled at the time of the raid, is still at large. He is however known to the police, so a second arrest is expected soon.
