ANC candidate councillor rectifies mistake

Operation to continue.

ANC candidate councillor Rudi du Plooy yesterday made good on his promise to remove election posters from locations that in terms of the bylaws were not supposed to be used for that purpose.

This comes after his DA opponent in Ward 84, Gert Niemand, pointed out on Wednesday (27 July) that Du Plooy, or his team, had pasted posters onto a newly painted substation on Kilburn Street as well as against a bridge in town. The by-laws state that election posters are only allowed on light posts.

Du Plooy defended himself saying he did not have control over the actions of every person in the team who put up posters, but that he would rectify the error, which he promptly started doing the next day.

He and his team started on Kilburn Street. According to Du Plooy it took the team an average of two hours per substation to remove the posters. He said the operation will continue.
