Davidsonville residents had enough of dumping

Dumping is creating a rat infestation.

A group of Davidsonville residents, led by Debra Judge, are taking it upon themselves to clean up the many illegal dumping sites.

Judge started off by saying that she is not sure whether many of the residents have no dustbins, and whether that might be the reason for the scourge. However, “People should remember that Pikitup removes the rubbish on Fridays, and if they’re on strike, they collect on Saturdays and Sundays. But people get impatient and send their children to dump their rubbish wherever there’s an open space. If they at least burned the rubbish after dumping it, that would already help,” she said.

“People who do this are forgetting that there are people living near these open spaces. Dumping like this leads to a rat infestation, but the culprits keep on dumping their left-over food, and this just worsens the problem. We cannot live like this,” said Judge. “It costs a lot of money to get Pikitup to clean up every time. We cannot live like pigs, and those who do not have dustbins should make a plan.

“We are appealing to everyone to stand together and help with the clean-up, if for no other reason than for the good of our children,” she continued.

“I want to thank people like Gaynor Davids, Jairzinho King and Ricardo Mapson for their ongoing dedication to this cause,” she concluded.

Pikitup’s spokesperson Jacky Mashapu could not be reached for comment on a possible solution for the Davidsonville community’s problem.
