National Crème Brulee Day is observed annually on 27 July.
Crème brulee is also known as burnt cream, crema catalana and Trinity crème. This dessert is made with a rich custard based topped with a contrasting layer of hard caramel and served at room temperature. The custard base is usually vanilla flavoured but can also be made with many variations such as lemon, orange, rosemary, lavender, chocolate, Amaretto, Grand Marnier, cinnamon, coffee, liqueurs, green tea, pistachio, hazelnut, coconut or other fruit.
The earliest reference to crème brulee as we know it today, appears in Francois Massialot’s 1691 cookbook.
To celebrate National Crème Brulee Day, find a recipe and make your own delicious dessert or go to a restaurant and treat yourself and your friends.
