Awards all around

HONEYDEW – Hard work is awarded with Spur burgers and vouchers at the Honeydew Police.

Being a police officer may be one of the most difficult professions and therefore they need to be recognised for their hard work.

The Honeydew CPF rewards officers from the Honeydew SAPS with the Goodwill Shield to show their appreciation. Jon Rosenberg, public relations officer for the Honeydew CPF explained that they decided to award the shield not only to officers who operate outside of the police station, but also award people who work within the precinct as from June.

Rosenberg explained that each unit within the SAPS will nominate a member who has gone above their call of duty to receive the shield. The lucky recipient for the month of June is Zelda Nel who works for the Human Resource Department. Nel’s commander, Lieutenant Colonel Barbara Kruger thanked Nel for her duties and contribution to the efficient running of the department. “Two women, unfortunately, stopped working at the department and Zelda stepped up to help me,” said Kruger.

She explained that Nel is always willing to take more onto her shoulders than what is expected of her. Rosenberg said that from the CPF’s side they thank Nel for her hard work and especially in a department that tends to get overlooked. The Goodwill Shield is a floating trophy that will stay in the police station, but Nel will get a trophy that she can keep.

Rosenberg said that he contacted Wayne Coleman, owner of the Lone Wolf Spur to get a voucher as a prize for Nel. Coleman, however, went above and beyond and also donated 70 burgers and 70 vouchers to police officers on the relief staff that worked on duty on 20 July. “I decided to do this as part of charity work I do,” said Coleman.
