Relax on National Hammock Day

Enjoy some me-time today

Nothing sounds more enticing than kicking back and relaxing in a hammock – the perfect way to celebrate National Hammock Day on 22 July.

A hammock is a sling made of fabric, rope or netting suspended between two points such as posts or trees. It is used for swinging, sleeping or resting.

The word comes from a Taíno culture Arawakan word (Haiti) meaning “fish net”

The hammock is a symbol of summer, leisure and simple easy living.

The hammock was developed for sleeping, by the natives of Central and South America. It was first woven out of bark from trees.

Later sailors bagan to use hammocks aboard ships for comfort and to maximise space.
