Criminal answers the wrong call

Suspects detained at Roodepoort Police Station.

Two men, aged 20 and 33, were arrested for possession of stolen goods this past Wednesday (20 July).

This comes after cellphones were stolen from a Vodacom shop in Southgate Mall in May. The investigating officer determined the location of one of the phones by tracking it thorough triangulation, and went to the address in Elias Motsoaledi Street.

At the premises he called the number in question and when the suspect answered the phone, he walked over to him and introduced himself as a member of the police. He explained to the suspect that he was investigating a business robbery and that the phone the man was using had been stolen. The man then told him he had bought the phone from his brother.

The suspect took the investigating officer to his brother and it was discovered that he was also using a phone that had been stolen during the same robbery.

Both men were arrested and detained at Roodepoort Police Station.
