National Tug-O-War Tournament Day

Test your strength on #NationalTug-of-WarTournamentDay

July 21 is National Tug-of-War Tournament Day!

Tug-of-War (or Tug-O-War, as it is sometimes called) is the ultimate test of strength.

Two teams of eight people stand opposite each other, with a length of rope between them. The objective of the game, is to keep on pulling against each other, until one team is pulled over the centre line. Sometimes a moat is featured in the middle of the two opposing teams that the losers are pulled into to.

There is evidence that a version of the game has been played for a long time, even in ancient Egypt and China!

Tug-of-War was also featured as an Olympic sport from 1900 – 1920, before it was removed, and many Tug-of-War enthusiasts have been trying to get it re-introduced.

Celebrate National Tug-of-War Tournament Day by playing a friendly game of Tug-of-War with your friends.
