Journalists in Labour Court to obtain interdict against SABC

JOBURG – Four SABC journalists will be back in court tomorrow after their case was postponed.

The case of four of the eight journalists, dubbed the SABC8, who were fired earlier this week, was postponed until tomorrow in the Labour Court in Braamfontein this morning.

Anton van der Bijl, who is currently representing Foeta Krige, Suna Venter, Jacques Steenkamp and Krivani Pillay confirmed the postponement. These four senior journalists were fired by the SABC on Monday.

The journalists approached the court to obtain an interdict to set aside their dismissals and to revert the disciplinary process in its entirety.

According to Van der Bijl the SABC legal team asked Judge Rob la Grange for a postponement because “they were not prepared for the case”. La Grange postponed the case after telling the SABC team that they knew about the hearing and should have been prepared.

Busisiwe Ntuli, Lukhanyo Calata, Vuyo Mvoko and Thandeka Gqubule were also dismissed by the SABC on Tuesday. They attended the court proceedings today in support of their colleagues.
