‘Airtime salesman’ turns out to be armed robber

One suspect arrested.

One of the two suspects involved in a recent armed robbery has been arrested.

The victim was walking along Gustaf Street when two males approached him, under the guise of selling cellphone airtime. When he told them he had no money on him, they blocked his path and one of them pulled a knife on him. They searched him and took his smartphone, bank cards and cash, and fled. The victim saw a police vehicle parked nearby and informed the officers about the incident. They then drove him around to see if he could spot the suspects.

At Station Square, they saw the suspects, who tried to flee. The police pursued them and managed to arrest a 19-year-old suspect.

The suspect has been detained at the Roodepoort Police Station on a charge of armed robbery.
