Teenager critical after hit by bus

Off-duty paramedic came to girl's rescue.

A child, believed to be 17 years old, was left critically injured this morning after she was hit by a bus on Main Road in Newlands, said ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring.

It is understood that an off-duty paramedic was travelling to work when she noticed the child lying in the road. She then proceeded to flag down a passing ER24 ambulance. The paramedics found that the child had sustained serious injuries, leaving her in a critical condition.

The paramedics immediately began treating the child, and provided her with advanced life support interventions. Once stabilised, the patient was transported to the Helen Joseph Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
